When Tyler Bate was announced for the WWE 2K19 roster, a thought entered my head – is he the youngest wrestler to ever be included in a WWE video game? He’s got to at least be one of the youngest, right? Well, once a thought like that enters my head, I have to accept the challenge. So after looking through the rosters of every WWE console video game ever made, I believe I’ve solved my own challenge that nobody else in the world was wondering about – here are the Top 15 Youngest Playable Wrestlers in WWE Video Games.
For this list, I will only be including home console releases with the WWE license, meaning that mobile games are not included. Also, no video games from WCW, ECW, Fire Pro, etc will be eligible. If you think I’ve missed somebody off, please let me know.
15. Zack Ryder – WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009: 23 years, 5 months, 23 days
Yes, the person we’re starting off with is under 24 years old, and it only gets more upsetting from here.
Beating out his then tag team partner by only two months, Zack Ryder is the fifteenth youngest person in a WWE video game, making his debut as an Edge Head in Smackdown vs. Raw 2009. In the last ten years, Zack sadly hasn’t always appeared in the games, he hasn’t always had the best stats, but here’s still there doing his thing, and that’s definitely something to respect.
14. Cody Rhodes – WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009: 23 years, 4 months, 8 days
Cody Rhodes has done a lot in his career, and considering he’s been on our televisions for over a decade, it’s easy to forget he’s now only 33 years old. Before he became NWA Champion, before he won the ROH Championship, before All In, and before his first taste of singles glory, Cody achieved history by being one of the youngest wrestlers to ever be in a WWE video game at the age of 23 back in 2008.
13. Rezar – WWE 2K18: 23 years, 4 months, 2 days
The fact Akam and Rezar are not related to each other and had never met prior to signing with WWE is amazing. Although you would never believe it by looking at them, the Authors of Pain’s combined age is lower than Kurt Angle’s age, and they were both born after the first episode of Monday Night Raw. When they made their WWE video game debut last year, the younger of the behemoths, Rezar, beat Cody Rhodes by just six days to earn the number thirteen spot in this list.
12. Velveteen Dream – WWE 2K19: 23 years, 1 month, 17 days
One of the most exciting talents in the company right now is Velveteen Dream. His combination of charisma, pure athleticism, talent and character is captivating everyone who gets to experience The Dream, despite having only a few years experience in pro wrestling at a young age. When WWE 2K19 is released, he will not only be one of the best and most promising young talents in NXT, he’ll also be one of the youngest playable wrestlers in the game.
11. Stephanie McMahon – WWF WrestleMania 2000: 23 years, 1 month, 8 days
You may not even know the Billion Dollar Princess made her video game debut this early on in her life due to her being quite an obscure unlockable character in WWF Wrestlemania 2000 for the N64, but Stephanie McMahon did appear in virtual form not long after turning 23 years old. To unlock Stephanie in this game, you just have to play Road to WrestleMania Mode with Test (something which not many people were choosing to do hence why this isn’t well known), and after a few matches, Stephanie will start accompanying you to the ring, and be available to play for yourself.
10. Stacy Keibler – WWE SmackDown! Shut Your Mouth: 23 years, 18 days
When Stacy Keibler came to WWE, she was already an established star in WCW, which is what makes her age in her debut WWE video game appearance even more impressive. Just eighteen days after her 23rd birthday, this WCW alumni was playable for the first time in the brilliant WWE Smackdown! Shut Your Mouth.
9. JTG – WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008: 22 years, 10 months, 30 days
Remember when there was a website dedicated to displaying how long JTG had been hired by WWE? Those were the days.
Eleven years before setting up his own line of beard care products (still waiting on that sponsorship deal, JTG), this Cryme Tyme member was just 22 when he appeared in his first video game. They say crime doesn’t pay, but if you spell it with a “y” instead, clearly it gets you places pretty quickly.
8. Essa Rios – WWF No Mercy 22 years, 10 months, 7 days
Anybody that owned WWF No Mercy as a kid definitely played as Essa Rios several times purely because he did all of the cool moves. There’s just something about hitting an Asai Moonsault that blows a child’s mind, even in virtual form. What most of us didn’t know back then though was that Essa was still only 22 years old when that game came out, meaning he’s still only 40 at the time of writing.
7. Chris Masters – WWE Day of Reckoning 2: 22 years, 7 months, 21 days
Perhaps it didn’t all work out as well in the end as he had hoped, but clearly everyone backstage in WWE was extremely high on the potential of Chris Masters when he burst onto the main roster from a young age. Chris’ initial push locked him a place on the roster of Day of Reckoning, a fantastic and underrated Gamecube-exclusive game, as well as Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 a few months later.
6. Paige – WWE 2K15: 22 years, 3 months, 1 day
WWE 2K15 was the first WWE game to appear on the current generation of consoles, and arguably one of the most disappointing wrestling games ever made thanks to several major gameplay omissions. Well, at least it was the first game to include current SmackDown general manager Paige. I mean, she was unfortunately an exclusive for season pass holders meaning most of us didn’t actually get to play as her, but when a game is lacking as much as this one was, you’ve got to embrace the positives whenever you can get them.
5. Jeff Hardy – WWF WrestleMania 2000: 22 years, 2 months
It is crazy that Jeff Hardy is only four years older than Finn Balor is, considering he’s been a part of a lot of our lives for two decades now. Back in 1999 when he was included in WWF WrestleMania 2000, Jeff was at the time the youngest person to ever appear in a WWE video game, and nineteen years later, he’s still an active member of the roster, pulling off all of those daring stunts that he did back when he was 22.
4. Kenny Dykstra – WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008: 21 years, 6 months, 21 days
Kenny Dykstra, member of the Spirit Squad, former WWE Tag Team Champion back in 2006, is still only 32 years old. This man was competing on Monday Night Raw before he was old enough to legally take a sip of alcohol in the United States. In his one and only appearance in a video game, Kenny became one of the youngest ever to do so.
3. Tyler Bate – WWE 2K19: 21 years, 5 months, 29 days
If 2K had included this Moustache Mountain member in WWE 2K18 as they had apparently once intended (which is obvious given that his and Pete Dunne’s moves were included in the DLC moves pack), Tyler Bate would have claimed the number one spot on this list. But don’t let that take away from the fact that once 2K19 is released, he will still be the third youngest ever to be in a WWE video game, and is still talented to a scary and upsetting degree at such a young age.
2. Rene Dupree – WWE Smackdown vs. Raw: 20 years, 10 months, 19 days
Five years after Jeff Hardy set the record for youngest in a WWE video game, Rene Dupree came along and smashed it by almost a year and a half in age difference, and is still the youngest male in any WWE video game. Before legally being allowed to drink, Rene had already become the youngest champion in WWE history at that time, along with being able to play as himself in a video game. Not bad for someone younger than the majority of university graduates.
- Kelly Kelly – WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008: 20 years, 9 months, 23 days
It’s a bit strange to think about right now, but when Kelly Kelly debuted on WWE’s version of ECW back in 2006 as a stripteasing exhibitionist, she was still only a teenager. At the time of writing, she’s only 31 years old, making her younger than Lana, Charlotte Flair, Candice LeRae, Nia Jax, and The Bella Twins. As it stands, Kelly Kelly could make a full-time return to wrestling after six years away, and still be younger than many of her peers.
Over two months before her 21st birthday, Kelly Kelly became the youngest playable wrestler in WWE video game history, a record which will most likely go unbroken for a long time to come… well, unless 2K announce that Nicholas DLC we’ve all been begging for.
